Vermicelli Upma

Dish name: Vermicelli Upma

What we need:

  • Roasted wheat Vermicelli-1 cup
  • Oil-2 tbsp
  • Water-2 cups
  • Mix vegetables(carrot,peas,boiled potato)-diced small,1/2 cup
  • Onion-1, chopped
  • Ginger garlic paste-1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves-6 to 7
  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric-1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli-2, chopped
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Lemon – juice of half lemon
  • Salt to taste

How we make:

  • You will find roasted vermicelli readily available in shops of many brands for making kheer or upma,but if you have vermicelli which is plain then first dry roast it on a tawa or a pan just like the way you roast semolina(sooji) for making upma
  • Take a wide pan and heat oil in it
  • Once ready add mustard seeds and cumin seeds
  • When it splutters,add ginger garlic paste,curry leaves ,chillies and stir well
  • Add the chopped onions and saute for 2 to 3 mins till it changes colour
  • Add the vegetables and saute again
  • Put some turmeric,salt,and water and cover the lid and cook it
  • When water starts to boil,gently add the vermicelli and keep stirring the same .

  • Simmer the flame,add the lemon juice ,once again cover and cook till the vermicelli turns soft and all the water is absorbed by it
  • Garnish with coriander Leaves and serve warm
